Veig is a unit that dynamically integrates diverse perspectives based on various viewpoints, such as intellectual exploration and aesthetic appreciation. Our practice captures relationships within various spaces, including ecosystems, and primarily expresses them through gardening and landscape design. With members possessing a range of specialized expertise, we comprehensively handle everything from professional surveys to spatial design, construction, and consulting.
KOSUKE katano
engages in a wide range of activities spanning sustainability, natural capital, and biology. His work includes research collaborations and R&D with corporations and universities, consulting on environmentally conscious product development, and advising on green finance, forestry, agriculture, and molecular biology-related initiatives. Rather than adhering to rigid disciplinary boundaries, he approaches challenges by leveraging complex expertise as needed to address multifaceted issues effectively.
During high school, he conducted research on DNA methylation and later joined the MIT Media Lab as a research affiliate. There, he contributed to the development of genome sequencing techniques within the Synthetic Neurobiology group and the Broad Institute. In the Community Biotechnology group, he worked on democratizing biological research through the creation of low-cost, open-source experimental tools and methods accessible worldwide.
After returning to Japan, he conducted ecological research on expanded ecosystems with the Synecoculture group at Sony Computer Science Laboratories (Sony CSL) and the Synecoculture Association, working on projects such as desert restoration and urban ecosystem assessments.
YOSUKE nishio
